...The First Day...

The first thing that I remembered after we all were kidnapped was the tube. ... It all came in nightmares. I’d be in water, this cold water, and there would be these things stuck into me. They burned me and that’s when I started screaming. I’d black out, but I’d still be screaming. I could see flashes of images. They’d fade in and then fade out. I remember seeing Tyler’s backstabbing mom watching us. Her eyes were more directed to Tyler than anyone else. I remember seeing how the teal water reflected off her skin. I remember seeing a flash of the doctor guy. I didn’t know his name at the time, but when I caught a glimpse of him, he looked like one of the happiest people on the planet. I remember feeling liquid run down my throat and I remember feeling like I was drowning. I remember feeling when my eyes were scorching and then all of a sudden, I could see a hundred times better than ever before, but... none of us could stop screaming. The pain was too much. But, I remember when the screams became snarls. I remember feeling like an animal. I remember seeing Elana with some other guy and they were watching us. After that... there was darkness and silence once again. I remember having some weird dreams. Like once, I dreamt that I was with Andy at this festival and there were all these mutated creatures being displayed. It was horrible. I felt so bad for them. The weird thing was they were calling us.
“Help us!” they cried, looking only to me and Andy. Before we could do anything, my dream had shifted to another.
So, after all this, I can remember nothing else. I’ll now start off from when we all woke up.
My cheek was pressed upon cotton. It felt nice and there was a blanket wrapped around me. I was so cozy and warm. My thoughts were all muddled so I really couldn’t function properly yet. I actually wanted to go back to sleep, but I felt so alert. I could hear footsteps somewhere in the distance and near me, I could hear several others breathing. It took me a minute to finally open my eyes. I was shocked to find myself in some kind of room or cell. The walls were made of thick glass and the floor was porcelain white. The cot I slept on was like those kinds of cots you get in a hotel when you need an extra bed. It was nice, but I didn’t know where the heck I was.
As I looked in front of me, I could see Tyler on the other side of the glass. He was still sleeping. I turned over and saw that Andy was on the other side of that glass wall. I was so scared. I didn’t know what was going on. I tried to sit up, but it was kinda hard at first. It took me nearly six tries before I was able to sit. I didn’t know if I had any voice to speak, so I cleared my throat. All of a sudden, a horrible knot formed in my stomach and I had to puke. Conveniently, there was a sink in my cell, so with speed I didn’t even know I possessed, I dashed to it and threw up right there. There was teal liquid just like in my nightmares. Immediately, I backed away from the sink and ran to Tyler’s side of my cell.
“Tyler!” I croaked as my throat burned. “Tyler, wake up!” I sounded like a frog. He shifted slightly, but he didn’t wake up. “Tyler! Please, wake up!” It took a lot out of me to scream like that, but I was so scared. I didn’t want to be the only one awake. “TYLER!!” a snarled ripped from my throat. It sounded so animal that I freaked myself out and backed away from the glass.
Tyler heard me and he jolted upright, looking at me with his blue eyes. He gawked at me for a moment before looking around and bolting for the sink. He threw up some liquid, shuddering when he saw what he upchucked, and came back over to his bed. “... Lola?” he croaked, looking at me fearfully.
“Tyler, thank God,” I sighed with relief. “Where are we?”
“... I dunno,” he said, looking around him. “Samy!” At once, he dashed for the other side of his cell and placed his hands on the glass wall, banging on it worriedly. “Samy, wake up!” he cried as loud as he could, which was pretty loud. It hurt my ears.
“I’m gonna wake up Andy,” I told him, though I doubt he was listening. I raced to the other side of my cell and started imitating Tyler’s banging. “ANDY!!” I hollered.
My brother woke up immediately, wasting no time to throw up the liquid still in his system. When he left the sink and turned to me, he looked terrified. “Lola!” he cried, racing to the glass. “What’s happening?”
“I don’t know,” I sobbed, feeling anguish and fear consume me entirely. “I just wanna go home.”
“You guys, I got Samy awake!” Tyler called to us, moving slightly to show how Samy was against her wall and looking at us.
“What’s going on?” she asked softly. I was surprised I could even hear her.
“We don’t know,” Tyler said, looking back at her. “But, we need to figure out how to get out of here. And what the heck are we wearing?!” We were all wearing a sleeveless shirt that looked similar to under armor and a pair of shorts.
“How do we get out of here?!” Samy panicked, banging against the glass wall. She was on the brink of hysteria.
“Samy, calm down!” my brother said, watching nervously.
“Yeah, Samy, we’re gonna get out of here somehow,” Tyler said, going over to her side of the cell wall and stroking the glass where she was.
“GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!” she howled and that’s when she completely lost it. A roar came from her that sounded like some jungle cat and everything about her changed. Her golden eyes shifted to a brighter yellow and she grew fangs.
“Oh my God!” I cried, cowering away and literally pressing myself into the wall that kept me and Andy apart.
Tyler couldn’t move. His back was turned to us, but I know that he was watching her transformation in horror. I don’t know what Andy’s reaction was, but I knew he was just as scared as we were.
Samy started to grow tiger fur. It covered her entire body. Her facial structure turned all catlike. Her feet arched and turned into paws. Her hands grew bigger and her nails got slightly longer and sharper. With a popping sound, dark brown wings came from her back. They looked to be about five or six feet wide as they spread out behind her. A tiger’s tail came from behind her, too. She looked truly terrifying.
Fear overwhelmed us all and suddenly, we were transforming, too. Tyler snarled like a panther and his skin became black fur. Black wings popped out of his back and they looked to be about nearly seven feet. A black tail slid down from his shorts and he grew taller from his arched paws.
While he transformed, I felt my fur bud and consume my body. It didn’t hurt, but... it felt different. The intensity of my sight increased and I felt my bone structure shift as I morphed. That wasn’t so pleasant, but it lasted only a couple of seconds. This transformation process had taken about twelve seconds in its entirety. When my wings popped out, they slipped easily through slits in the back of my shirt. It felt oddly satisfying like they had been locked up for a long time and I was finally letting them out to breathe. I felt my tailbone grow and slide through the slit in my shorts. I turned in time to see Andy transform.
Out of his back popped out two massive gray wings. They looked to be about the same size as Tyler’s. His fur was that of a snow leopard and it covered every part of him. His eyes were gray instead of the fiery chocolate-hazel they usually were. He looked to be about as tall as Tyler, too. He had all the features of a cat. It was strange though. Our hands were similar to our human hands part from the fur and the sharp nails. They weren’t like paws or anything; not like our feet.
So, here we were all transformed and roaring like beasts. There were no mirrors to see ourselves in the cells, but it didn’t really matter. We were all scared for our lives.
